Source Extracted from the content of the mango seed and cold-pressed into a creamy butter.
Benefit Plant-based emollient that is a rich source of fatty acids and skin-soothing ingredients.
Shea butter
Source Extracted from the karite tree.
Benefit Plant-based emollient that is a rich source of anti-oxidants and skin-replensihing fatty acids.
Baobab seed oil
Source Extracted from the seeds of the baobab tree that grows in Southern Africa. Our baobab oil is organic, sustainably sourced and wild harvested. Fallen fruit are collected from under trees and thus there is no damage to parent trees. Our supplier also supports the Baobab Foundation, a NPO that aims to make a meaningful contribution to the livelihoods of rural people and to the conservation of baobab trees.
Benefit Gentle and soothing moisturizer with a plethora of antioxidants and omega fatty acids that aids in preserving collagen and helps protect skin from environmental aggressors.
Grapeseed oil
Source Derived from the seeds of grapes.
Benefit This moisturizing plant oil is high in polyphenols and antioxidants, which gives it the ability to defend skin from environmental stressors.
Aloe vera extract
Source Extracted from the juice-containing leaves of the aloe vera plant.
Benefit Moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. Aids in wound healing and skin regeneration.
Chamomile flower extract
Source Extracted from chamomile flowers.
Benefit Chamomile has notable skin soothing and anti-aging properties.
Rosemary leaf extract
Source Extracted from the rosemary plant.
Benefit Rosemary leaf extract benefits the skin with antioxidant components and a calming effect that can be useful in mitigating several common skin issues.
Vitamin E
Source Tocopherols are a class of naturally occurring chemical compounds referred to as vitamin E.
Benefit Helps to protect skin from free radical damage and strengthens the skin barrier.
Our no list
We are as conscious about the ingredients we choose to exclude, as the ones we include. We avoid ingredients linked to skin irritations and allergies, hormone disruption, cancer, as well as ingredients that negatively impact the environment and welfare of animals. Our list of “no’s” is long, but here’s a start:
Collapsible content
Parabens
Preservative to keep formulas fresh. Certain parabens have been linked to hormone disruption. Out of caution, we prohibit all.
Phthalates
Phthalates are plasticizing chemicals. Many may remain undisclosed
on ingredient labels, hiding under the term “fragrance.” Some phthalates have been linked to hormone disruption.
Sulfates
Sulfates are surfactants (cleaning agents) mostly found in cleansers that can cause skin irritation or trigger allergies.
Synthetic and natural fragrances
We avoid synthetic fragrances as they can disguise potentially harmful chemicals, and natural fragrances (such as essential oils) due to their volatile nature and potential for skin irritation.
Silicones
Linear silicones, like dimethicone, are unlikely to cause health concerns for cosmetics users, but they do not biodegrade well and may clog pores. Cyclic silicones may have endocrine disruption concerns.
Triclosan and triclocarban
Antibacterials that are persistent in the environment and may be associated with hormone disruption.
Oxybenzone & Octinoxate
Chemical sunscreens that have been linked to hormone disruption.
Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde “releasers” are often utilized as preservatives. Whilst somewhat safe in certain formulations, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and we choose to avoid it.
Talc
Talc is a natural mattifying mineral powder. Talc has become controversial due to potential asbestos contamination and smalll particles getting into the body through inhalation.
Petrolatum and paraffin
The concerns with these ingredients are unsustainable sourcing and possible PAH (Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon) contamination, which is linked to cancer.

BWC approved
Beauty Without Cruelty is an animal-rights organization that verifies that nothing in our products has been tested on animals, or contains any animal-derived ingredients. We've always been cruelty-free and vegan, but BWC makes it *official*.
A note from our founder
“I moved back to my hometown, Cape Town, after working in the beauty and fashion industry in Paris and New York. I found that whilst we have an incredible creative scene, there is a distinct lack of cosmetics brands that offer locally manufactured makeup, or utilize our rich host of African botanical extracts. Incorporating international beauty trends and a touch of South African flair, I made the brand I’ve always dreamt of.”
